Happy birthday Bharathi and Paati!!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of making two eggless chocolate cakes for one of my frequent customers, Deepana.  She was the first person to order a wedding cake from me, so I truly cherish her :-)  These cakes were a request from her brother-in-law who wanted a cake for both his wife {her sister Bharathi} and his mother {Paati}.  Deepana really liked my Sprinkles cake that I've made in the past for my cousin Sebastian and also for my friend's son Kiwa.  She wanted something similar, but requested that the two cakes look different from each other.  This is what I came up with...enjoy!!

{Sorry for the quality of the photos.  I could only take photos with my phone.  My camera decided it was too tired to work that morning, hehe.}.

One of very few shots my camera did take...before it stopped working that morning.

And here are some progress shots...

SPCA Cupcake Day @ Summerland!!

Good morning peeps!!  And happy {official} SPCA Cupcake Day!!  If you see cupcakes being sold in your neighbourhood, I encourage you to support SPCA by buying a cupcake or two from these wonderful volunteers.  I had my share of baking for this fundraising event last week for both Kindercare and Summerland {...still recovering from the sleep loss to this day, hehehe}.  Today, I get to share with you the cupcakes Summerland Primary got to have!!  We had a huge turn out last Friday at morning tea that I had to return at lunch time to do it all over again!!  I made HUNDREDS of cupcakes, so there were plenty to go around.  By the end of it, my awesome team and I were giving away the remaining cupcakes for FREE!!  Let's just say it attracted what seemed like the whole school!!!  I don't blame them, if I saw something was free, I'd be first in line I'm sure!!  hehe.  It was lovely to see that even though we ended up giving the cupcakes away, some students were still donating whatever coins they had in their pockets for SPCA.  Bless you Summerland Primary!!  :-)

Happy 70th Birthday Asa!!

Hey guys!!  I know I've been away from blogdom lately, but I have been busy caking it here and there.  I am so excited to share with you a cake I made for one of the most beautiful ladies in the world - Asa {from Niue}.   I met her for the first time on Saturday, and she was so sweet and warm and uber friendly.  She was celebrating her 70th birthday {awesome, right?!} with her beautiful family and friends, and even invited my hubby and I to stay for the party.  Of course, we kindly declined the offer, but it sure was tempting!!  Instead, she gave me two gifts - a flower to put on my right ear (because I'm married) and a colourful lava lava.  I didn't even expect anything and felt so shy at receiving such items, but I couldn't decline either because she looked so happy giving those things to me.  She is one very special lady I will never forget :-)  I just feel honoured to have met such a wonderful person!!
This is me with the lovely birthday celebrant, Asa :-)
Now, this cake couldn't have happened if the lovely Moka hadn't come across my blog on the internet while searching for birthday cakes.  Then I find out that she works with one of my friends, Angela, whom I met in Rarotonga last year at my best friend's wedding.  What a small world, huh?  Moka first fell in love with my M.J. tip-toe cake and then contacted me after that.  She was lovely from the first email!  She described her Mum {whom this cake was for} and immediately I knew she was an amazing lady!  Main things she liked were gardening and anything Pasifika!  I was excited when Moka wanted to incorporate hibiscus flowers, flax and her children's necklaces on the cake.  All of which I had never done before.  You know me and challenges...I welcome them with open arms!!

After bouncing a few ideas with Moka {who also got feedback from her sisters}, we decided to go with the flax basket of hibiscus flowers!  Super excited to make this cake because there were many 'firsts' here.  Nothing better than something new to get the creative juices going!

Here are some pics for you all to enjoy!!

And here's a photo I took at the venue with my phone.  The set up of the venue was so pretty!!  And I got to meet, not only the lovely Asa, but her two {of six} daughters, Moka {who ordered the cake} and Goss.  Thanks for the warm reception ladies!!  :-)
That's Asa in the background getting a flower for me...so sweet!!  xo

Happy 3rd Birthday Dante!!

Good morning guys!!  Today I am sooo thrilled to share with you a cake I made yesterday for a boy named Dante who turned three.  His Mum Christina contacted me last week regarding this cake.  She really didn't have any specific designs in mind, but knew it had to be Iron Man and red velvet :-)  I couldn't wait to make this cake because it's my first Iron Man cake ever!

Here's how it went down...

Originally,  the cake looked like this...

...but then the following morning I decided I wanted to add some buildings around the cake, which led to...

Hope you enjoyed today's cake feature!!  Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

Update: I received a txt from Christina this morning: "Hi Jackie!  The cake looked and tasted amazing and my boy absolutely loved it so thank you : )"

Thanks Christina!  I'm glad your boy liked his cake!  I had fun making it!!  xo

Happy 9th Birthday Kiwa!!

On the weekend we celebrated my friend Mia's and Terence's son Kiwa's 9th birthday.  We had so much fun at Mt. Albert Wave Pools, then had food and cake afterwards at Pt. Chevalier KFC.  Last year, we made this super cool DJ turntable cake for Kiwa.  This year, Mia decided on a simple but funky cake.  She really liked the 'sprinkles' cake I made for my cousin Seb last year, so I made the same for Kiwa, but this time I made it even bigger!  Pure chocolate goodness...well, maybe too much chocolate, but is that a bad thing?  As an additional gift, I made a dozen confetti party cupcakes :-)  Enjoy!!

And here's the super handsome birthday boy with his cake!!  {I accidentally bumped the cake as I was taking it out of its box...grrr}.

Kiwa with his friends :-)

Thanks for stopping by today!!  Have a terrific Tuesday and see you back here soon!

July 2012 in a glimpse...

Is it really August already?  Wow, I can't believe it!!  I'm excited because it's almost Spring!!  I've enjoyed the cosy winter days and nights, but I'm over the sick bubbas that come with it.  Mothers are never allowed to get sick, especially during winter, so with all the 'overtime' I've worked I'm happy to shout with a loud voice "bring on Spring - I am ready for ya!!"  ;-)

Now, before we get too excited about flowers blooming and all that lovely Spring stuff, let's quickly take a walk down memory lane and see what fun we got up to this Winter!  Enjoy xo

Kaavin's 4th birthday - NINJAGO KAI
44th birthday - GOLF
Jaden's 1st birthday - MICKEY
Kathleen's 21st birthday - GLITZ & GLAM
And then came the beginning of my Kdrama addiction...

Baby shower red velvet cupcakes in a flash

This cake was the biggest 3D cake I've made to date!  I'm glad I challenged myself to create this because I would never have known I could do something of this scale without taking a leap...
Kat's 30th birthday - TIMBERLAND
...and let's not forget the coolest thing that's happened to me since I started pursuing cakes...
Cake Central Magazine Feature - June 2012 Volume 3 Issue 5
Thanks for chillin' with me all this time.  I love hearing from you, so please don't hesitate to drop me a comment or two.  Have a fun-tastic Friday!!
